Community Appearance
A thing of beauty is a joy forever;
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness.
- John Keats. 1795-1821 Endymion. Book I
Davis Islands is a beautiful community. It is a thoughtfully
planned balance of different uses that are pleasing
to look at, integrated with one another and functional.
Buildings are low-scale in height and oriented to
the road.
The community appearance can be best described as
"friendly" and "neighborly".
Water views are preserved and everyone can enjoy their
beauty.
Buildings are designed to be pedestrian friendly.
The automobile is important but its use and effect
on buildings are subordinate or hidden.
The buildings blend into the harmony of a pleasant
and compatible streetscape.
High community standards for buildings and storage
are maintained, in part, through active code enforcement.
Overhead wire-type utilities, such as telephone, cable
and electric, are buried underground clearing the
upward view through mature tree canopies to the sky.
