Davis Islands Neighborhood Planning Task ForceWorking Meeting Minutes Present: Lee Medart, Renae Tvedt, Renee Meehan, Pam Tayon,Phyllis Pacyna-Fleming, Lorraine Smith, Shelia Spicola, Shirley Mora , and Planning Commission representatives: Terry Cullen, Rose Petrucha. Absent: Charner Reese, Lisa DeVitto, and Andy Hayes, Jeffrey Siewert, (unexcused) ,Gary Brown, Denise Cavanaugh, (excused) (Note: an excused absence is one that the Chair has been notified before the meeting that the member cannot make it.) Meeting was called to order at 6:35 pm. Quorum noted. No Minutes submitted for approval: ReportsCity Council meeting this Thursday – Interesting pieces to be discussed about Davis Islands: The Director of Public Works is going to provide a report on placing a median in the wide area onto and off of DI to act as a traffic calming device. Resolution to be confirming contract and sale of purchase by a Quitclaim deed ( Transfers the entire interest that a person has in real property. It does not warrant that there are no encumbrances other than those listed on the deed.) for TGH buyer of city owned property of City Garage for the purchase price of $29 million. Petition of to rezone property at 77 & 81 Davis Blvd. The Chair noted to the members that she had been participating in the Downtown Transportation Vision – Alan Steinbeck – she asked him to come to DI to talk to the residents as to what was being planned for Downtown and how it might impact DI. Phyllis suggested that it should be a joint invitation by DICA, DICofC. The Chair reported that the residential and business surveys from the Planning Commission will be coming out shortly and she encouraged Task Force members to fill them out and return them and encourage your neighbors to do so. Unfinished BusinessThe Chair also commented that within a weekend of the delivery of the Newspapers, 8 Non-Residential surveys returns are already at Java & Cream. There was a question of the sketches not reflecting what they were to represent – Terry suggested that we could keep the same sketches showing that each sketch is a variation of the one option – keep the commercial the same but open up down to the water; preserving the views; tying-in and another one where the commercial is expanded with another sketch showing the commercial all the way down to the water. Discussion on the Parks & Rec. Survey returned surveys of Parks & Rec. and the answers and comments were discussed with Task Force members. 28 total responses were received on the Parks & Rec. survey. Terry brought up Community Awards is coming up in April and suggested that there was a category that what we are doing could be entered. He suggested that if we got an award, it would add legitimacy and publicity to the Task Force. The Task Force agreed to enter the contest and Terry is to give us the information on entering. The Chair asked that someone write up the Residential and Traffic surveys for the February issue, 10 day deadline. Phyllis Pacyna volunteered to do it. She also suggested that guidelines be given for the surveys: Deadlines that it be finished – 15 th of the month; Review of the surveys by the Task Force before they go into the paper; Agree on them before they go into the paper or not… New Business:Terry supported Phyllis in forecasting our deadlines in the future. Do residential first and then add the transportation to the survey. Terry suggested that at our next meeting we designate our open-house meeting date Start talking about graphics so we have a feel for it. Brain-storming session on how are we going to present to the Open-house at the Jan 25 th meeting. Terry suggested that someone on the Civic Association should be monitoring the Agenda to the City Council every week to keep up with what is being addressed for DI. Pam would suggest to DICA that they approach Dingfelder and Linda Saul-Sena about revisions being planned at Entrance to DI. Terry suggested that between the spring meeting and the fall meeting reached out to leaders in organizations; one-on-one conversations; be more assertive in getting in there. The Chair said that she had suggested to Charner that DICA could devote a whole meeting to the Task Force; Gary is scheduled to meet with the Chamber next week. The Chair reported that the Palm Bank CEO had offered that the community could use their sign board for upcoming meetings and such. The Chair reported the Davis’s visit in March. Lorraine brought out a program in progress about building a community website.
