Davis Islands Neighborhood Planning Task ForceAdministrative Meeting Minutes Present: Lee Medart, Renae Tvedt, Shelia Spicola, Gary Brown, Dennis Cavenaugh, Jeffery Siewert, Lisa DeVitto, – Michele Ogilvie, and Robert Lunsford, Planning Commission Advisors Absent: Luke Rosa, Charner Reese, Phyllis Pacyna, Renee Meehan, Lorraine Smith, (excused) The Chair called the Meeting to order at 6:35 pm. Quorum was not met at this time but was later in the meeting. Minutes for the July 7 and July 14 had been sent out via email for approval at tonight’s meeting. There were no July 28th minutes as the tape used to record it was defective and they will have to be put together with the help of the Task Force. Unfinished Business
Summaries from the Recorders: Looking for canopied streets; less traffic streets (Safety); back streets; people walk in the streets; some people will use larger streets such as Biscayne and Chesapeake are cross streets; Michele suggested to include some of the ideas that she picked up on but the recorder didn’t pick up her statement clearly enough to transcribe. We next covered the comments on the metaphors and the pictures:
Recorders’ Summary: The overriding feelings were: Community vs. Neighborhood; Quiet residential; Friendly community; Location of the community; Esthetics is high priority. The photos were next addressed. We looked at the comments recorded about the photos but there is no connection between what photos were being commented on. Recorders’ Summary: Dog-friendly; Farmer’s Market; Architecture; Pharmacy, Post Office, i.e., small businesses supporting the residents; No convenience stores pictures even though we all use them; Commercial services enriched the community; Public places for community interaction; Individual owners. New BusinessThe Chair asked if there were any changes to the outline Lisa had created. She also mentioned the “Vision Statement” from Salisbury, NC and a “General Plan” from Scottsdale, AZ as ideas or formats we might look at towards our goal. Lisa indicated that she had passed out at the last meeting an outline of a report that Terry said we are suppose to do. What we’re suppose to be working towards according to the planning staff. At the next community meeting, we are suppose to give two things: A succinct vision which is what we’re trying to arrive at by going with the data; But at the same time, Terry has told us we are suppose to have a report to the community. She asked that different people on the Task Force take responsibility about data sections on the report and suggested that Jeffrey should be in charge of charts and diagrams – we documented, on tape, that he agreed to do so. Lisa’s concern is that we are just “drowning” in data and if we don’t start pulling it together now, we’re going to have a last minute “crush” before we can have our next meeting. Gary agreed and suggested that Lisa update the outline; Such as expand “exercises” and other titles. If we are trying to show someone very quickly where the data came from, by expanding the titles. Gary felt that we should keep doing what we did tonight through all the data. This will lead to values, which will lead to the “vision statement”. When we get to that point, then we can divvy this out so that each of us can write this out and he felt that it would be very easy then. There was general consensus to that suggest and Lisa agreed. The Chair closed the meeting with a summary of what subjects we had covered this night: Metaphors and comments; Picture Comments; Map of the routes with comments. We still have the interviews and the survey comments to do. That only leaves the study circles that have already been summarized. The next meetings will be August 25th then September 8th & 22nd to get the vision statement completed. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm. |
